WHAT DOES THE COMPANY DO?

This company steers and helps companies which are legally drilling for oil, gas or for other purposes. It does not ‘do’ the drilling but it supports those who do, through guidance, support, use of up-to-the-minute technology and through provision of the necessary plant and tools. Working with the company, clients can today drill multiple wells using a single rig and also use anti-collision technology.

It’s current IT director is Duane Morris, who has been  there 18 years.

WHY DID SCIENTIFIC DRILLING INTERNATIONAL NEED SECURE DOCUMENTATION? (in the words of Duane Morris)

Scientific Drilling International serves a diverse group of customers across all energy sectors. This broad client base reflects its adaptability and expertise in addressing the unique challenges presented by different energy projects. The company’s experience extends to participating in some of the world’s most complex conventional and unconventional oil and gas projects.

HOW DID YOU COME ACROSS FILESTREAM?

I started to look around for a document management solution which would meet our needs. Paul Day had already done some work for our Aberdeen office and we had a conversation, several conversations in fact and we went ahead. We have now worked with Filestream for many years and the solution has really worked for us. It’s central to our operations and is evolving with us.

WHAT WAS THE TRANSITION TO PAPERLESS LIKE?

It was a huge task as we knew it would be – changing behaviours which dated back to the origin of the company back in the late 1960s. We had to hire in extra help just to scan our

documents to get them on to the Filestream system almost 20 years ago. Paul Day came over himself to show us the system and to help us plan for the transition and he’s helped us ever since.

WHAT HAVE THE BENEFITS BEEN?

We use Filestream routinely across most of the business. Filestream is central to our whole accounting process, it holds our legal and HR documents and also documents which are ve1y bespoke to our operations. This includes our policies, our instructions around how our machine1y and equipment works and any relevant health and safety documentation.

For us it’s all about having a safe, secure and efficient workflow which can be easily accessed and safely stored. We have that now.

DESCRIBE THE TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH FILESTREAM?

It’s been stellar. The support provided to us is exceptional. There must have been times when I’ve driven Paul and his team crazy with our off-beat requests. These are dealt with in a timely manner and the answer can be ‘we can find a way to do this’ or it can be ‘no it’s a problem you need to solve your end with your other systems’ – we know where we are with the team at Filestream. We’ve built up a strong level of trust and mutual respect.
